Description
Selank is an engineered seven-amino-acid peptide derived from the naturally occurring tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg). Additional proline and glycine residues were appended to the parent sequence to improve structural stability and slow enzymatic breakdown, yielding the heptapeptide sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. This Bolt Peptide offering is the amidated variant, in which the C-terminal carboxyl group is converted to an amide, a common modification studied for its influence on peptide stability and conformational behavior.
As a tuftsin analog, Selank has accumulated a broad body of cellular and biochemical research literature. Investigators have used it to probe peptide signaling in neuronal cell models and to compare how structural changes relative to the native tetrapeptide alter stability and in-vitro activity. The amidated form provides a useful reference point for analytical and comparative work alongside the standard peptide.
General areas of non-clinical research interest documented for Selank and related short regulatory peptides include:
- Cellular signaling pathway studies in cultured neuronal models
- Neurotrophin-related research, including BDNF signaling cascades in cell culture
- Comparative pharmacology of Selank versus parent tuftsin and other short peptides
- Investigations of GABAergic and serotonergic signaling systems in vitro
- Peptide stability and enzymatic-resistance characterization through analytical chemistry
