Description
VIP, short for Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide, is a synthetic 28-amino acid neuropeptide that occurs naturally across a range of mammalian tissues. It belongs to the secretin-glucagon peptide superfamily and carries the sequence His-Ser-Asp-Ala-Val-Phe-Thr-Asp-Asn-Tyr-Thr-Arg-Leu-Arg-Lys-Gln-Met-Ala-Val-Lys-Lys-Tyr-Leu-Asn-Ser-Ile-Leu-Asn-NH2, with an approximate molecular weight of 3325 Da.
Within the peptide family it shares structural homology with secretin, glucagon, and PACAP, and acts through G-protein-coupled receptors. This receptor interaction makes the peptide a frequent reference point in studies of neuropeptide signaling, receptor binding, and cellular pathway characterization.
Investigators commonly select VIP as a model compound when examining peptide structure-activity relationships and receptor-mediated signaling at the bench. Typical non-clinical research interest areas include:
- Neuropeptide receptor binding and G-protein-coupled receptor pharmacology
- Cellular signaling cascade and second-messenger pathway studies
- Peptide chemistry, conformation, and structure-activity investigations
- Comparative work across the secretin-glucagon peptide family
Each vial from Bolt Peptide contains 10mg of lyophilized VIP at 99%+ purity, confirmed by HPLC and mass spectrometry. A certificate of analysis is available for each batch. Store the lyophilized powder cold and protected from light, reconstitute with an appropriate solvent, and handle using standard laboratory practice for research peptides.
