What Is Epithalon (Epitalon)? A Research Overview

Epithalon (Epitalon) molecular structure — Bolt Peptide research overview

Epithalon (also spelled Epitalon or AEDG) is a synthetic tetrapeptide — alanine–glutamic acid–aspartic acid–glycine (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) — developed as a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring pineal peptide complex epithalamin. It is studied in preclinical telomerase, pineal, and aging research. Epithalon is offered strictly as a research chemical. It is for research use only (RUO), is not a drug or dietary supplement, is not approved by the FDA, and is not for human or veterinary use.

Quick facts

  • Class: synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly / AEDG)
  • Synthetic analog of: the pineal peptide complex epithalamin
  • Research focus: telomerase activity, pineal bioregulation, and aging research in cell and animal models
  • Form: lyophilized powder, ≥99% HPLC purity, third-party tested

What is Epithalon?

Epithalon is a short, four-amino-acid peptide first described by researcher Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues. Its sequence (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) was derived from epithalamin, a peptide preparation originally isolated from the pineal gland. Because it is a defined synthetic sequence rather than a tissue extract, Epithalon can be produced to consistent purity and used as a reproducible tool compound. In the literature it is most often associated with investigations into telomere biology and the enzyme telomerase.

What does the research show?

Existing evidence on Epithalon is preclinical — limited to in-vitro (cell culture) and animal models. In a cell-culture study, Khavinson and colleagues reported that Epithalon induced telomerase activity and was associated with telomere elongation in human somatic cell cultures that had previously shown suppressed telomerase activity [1]. In a separate long-term animal study, Anisimov and colleagues examined Epitalon in female SHR mice and reported effects on certain biomarkers of aging and on spontaneous tumor incidence in that model [2]. These findings describe observations within specific experimental systems and do not establish any effect, benefit, or safety profile in humans.

Mechanisms studied in the lab

  • Telomerase activation: increased telomerase enzymatic activity reported in human somatic cell cultures [1].
  • Telomere length: telomere elongation observed in treated cell models [1].
  • Pineal/neuroendocrine signaling: studied as a synthetic analog of pineal peptide bioregulators in animal aging models [2].

Research status and safety

Epithalon is not an approved drug, supplement, or therapy. It has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or efficacy in humans, and no human dosing or clinical protocol is provided or implied. This material is intended solely for in-vitro and laboratory research by qualified professionals and is not for human or animal consumption.

Handling

Epithalon is supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder and should be stored protected from light, heat, and moisture, with cold storage for long-term stability. FAQ

Is Epithalon the same as Epitalon or AEDG? Yes. “Epithalon,” “Epitalon,” and “AEDG” all refer to the same synthetic Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly tetrapeptide; spelling varies across the literature and suppliers.

Can Epithalon be used for anti-aging or to extend lifespan in people? No. All reported effects come from cell-culture and animal research. There are no established human benefits, and this product is for research use only.

What purity is the research material? It is supplied as a lyophilized powder at ≥99% HPLC purity and is third-party tested.
